Fillers and facial contouring

Profhilo: hydrating hyaluronic acid for skin quality

You have heard about Profhilo and would like your skin to look more hydrated and resilient, without changing your facial features. That is a reasonable goal. Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic-acid product made by IBSA, primarily discussed for skin quality and mild to moderate laxity. It is not the same as cheek contouring with a volumizing filler, does not replace a surgical lift and cannot promise to erase a deep fold. Before deciding, clarify what you actually want to change, which Profhilo version is being proposed and what it cannot do.

What is in the syringe, and why does the exact name matter?

Classic Profhilo combines high- and low-molecular-weight fractions of hyaluronic acid in what are called stable hybrid complexes. IBSA's instructions for a particular market list 32 mg of each fraction in a 2 ml syringe, totaling 64 mg. This does not mean that more milligrams necessarily produce greater lifting: concentration and distribution alone cannot predict what will happen on your face.

Hyaluronic acid binds water and is naturally present in human tissue. The manufacturer describes Profhilo as a product for tissue remodeling and laxity, including the cheek area. In the widely used BAP technique, the clinician selects defined injection points, adapting them to individual anatomy. This is a medical technique, not a diagram to reproduce yourself or insist upon without assessment.

The range includes Profhilo, Profhilo Body and Profhilo Structura. These are not three labels for the same syringe. Body is directed at other body regions and has its own documentation. Structura focuses differently on deeper tissue and subcutaneous fat compartments; claims about potential volume restoration with Structura must not be transferred to classic Profhilo. Ask to see the full trade name, formulation, instructions relevant to your country and sealed packaging.

What could realistically improve, and what needs another approach?

If skin looks dry, has fine surface unevenness or is starting to feel less elastic, Profhilo may be worth discussing. The aim is not to 'fill up' the cheeks: the hoped-for difference is more in how the skin looks and feels. With pronounced jowls, substantial excess skin, a deep nasolabial fold related to facial structure, or central facial volume loss, expecting this product to restore a defined contour would be unrealistic.

What you notice in the mirrorPotential role of classic ProfhiloWhat to discuss before agreeing
Skin seems less hydrated, with a fine network of creasesModest improvement in measured hydration and elasticity may occur; the extent variesSkincare, sun protection, irritation and other possible causes of dryness
Facial volume has decreased and cheek contours have changedNot primarily designed for precise volumetric sculptingAssessment of why volume was lost, and a separate discussion of fillers and their risks
Marked lower-face laxity and excess skinDoes not replace lifting; visible improvement may be smallRealistic device-based, surgical or conservative options
Inflammation, active acne or an unexplained rashNo reason to inject through inflamed skinEstablish a diagnosis and stabilize the skin first

Wanting an almost imperceptible change is entirely valid. But a gentle-looking intervention is not risk-free. Conversely, a striking advertising photograph might reflect different lighting, makeup, other procedures or simply temporary swelling. Compare images taken in the same light, from the same angle, with the same expression and at comparable intervals after treatment.

What do studies show, and what cannot be promised?

A 2026 systematic review of Profhilo and Profhilo Body brought together nine studies involving 278 participants in total. The authors reported improvements, or trends toward improvement, in measures of hydration, elasticity, skin density and laxity across different areas. These findings are encouraging, but neither universal nor guaranteed for any individual: the samples were small, sites and methods differed, not every study had a strong control group and some authors worked for the manufacturer. The review cannot be turned into a promise of guaranteed lifting or a fixed percentage of satisfied patients.

Other laboratory and clinical papers discuss changes in the extracellular matrix—the material around skin cells—and cell behavior. They do not prove that a face will become 'ten years younger' or that lost collagen will be restored to the amount you need. What was actually measured in people, and at which follow-up interval, is a safer basis for expectations. Long-term efficacy and the optimal frequency of repeat injections remain less certain than social-media claims suggest.

Regulatory status cannot be inferred from a logo on a box either. An IBSA instruction sheet published for Australia describes Profhilo as a medical device and separately notes CE certification; that does not automatically establish US FDA approval, Armenian registration or actual availability in Armenia. Indications can vary between regions and versions. During your consultation ask for local documentation for the exact product and do not accept 'approved in Europe' as the complete answer.

What happens during the injections, and will they hurt?

Before injecting, the clinician should ask about reactions to previous products, medical conditions and medicines, examine your makeup-free skin and assess anatomical risks. They should then explain the exact product, plan, alternatives and potential complications. The classic BAP pattern describes five points on each side of the face for a defined area. The cited product instructions recommend an initial two-session course approximately 30 days apart, but this is a manufacturer's protocol, not an obligatory schedule for every woman or a promise that two sessions will work.

You may feel brief needle pricks, pressure or stinging. Discomfort depends on sensitivity, treatment area, technique and any pain control chosen. Ordinary Profhilo should not be confused with a filler that already includes lidocaine; ask separately about anesthesia. Discuss what happens if it hurts, what can be used given your allergies and whether you can stop the procedure.

Small raised bumps may remain at the injection sites, along with redness, tenderness or bruising. Their appearance does not mean the product 'failed to take'; however, unusual, persistent or worsening symptoms warrant contacting a clinician. In the cited instructions, local reactions are generally described as short-lived, but some may last up to 10 days. Do not count on looking flawless that evening: being medically recovered and feeling comfortable in a social setting are different things.

When can you return to work and plan important events?

PeriodWhat others might noticePractical choice
Day of treatmentNeedle marks, bumps, localized redness and tendernessNot a good day for an important photoshoot; ask for individualized aftercare instructions
First few daysBumps often subside, though swelling or bruising may remainDo not assume it will be invisible; ask in advance about makeup and physical activity
Up to 10 days, or longer if there is a complicationA reaction may linger; increasing pain or abnormal skin color is not ordinary recoveryGet prompt help if symptoms worsen instead of waiting for the 'recovery period' to end
Following weeksSkin quality can be assessed once the initial reaction settles; improvement may be modestCompare photographs under equal conditions and decide freely whether to continue

If a wedding, long flight, presentation or sunny holiday is approaching, allowing enough time matters more than advertisements calling this a lunchtime treatment. The cited IBSA instructions advise avoiding UV exposure for the first 3–5 days and protecting the treated area with SPF 50. Sauna, exercise, facial massage, swimming and cosmetics should be discussed with the clinician in light of your skin's condition, not a generic online video. Avoid touching injection sites with dirty hands or trying to massage away the bumps yourself.

When should you postpone, and which warning signs matter?

Injections should be postponed if the intended treatment area is infected or inflamed. The published Profhilo instructions prohibit using it concurrently with certain skin-injuring procedures, including laser resurfacing and medium/deep chemical peels. During pregnancy or breastfeeding there is insufficient reliable evidence to promise that elective aesthetic injections are safe; it is reasonable to defer and discuss the question with your doctor. Report bleeding disorders, anticoagulants, immune-related conditions, allergies and any previous injection complications. Never stop prescribed medicine for a cosmetic appointment without your treating doctor's agreement.

Seek emergency medical attention if an injection is followed by unusually severe or increasing pain, white or mottled gray-blue skin, changes in vision, sudden weakness, numbness, facial drooping or difficulty speaking. These may signal impaired blood supply or another serious event: do not wait until tomorrow. Fever, spreading redness, heat, pus or a worsening painful lump also need prompt medical assessment. Rare vascular complications have been described with hyaluronic-acid injections generally; Profhilo's gentle reputation does not eliminate that risk, and its product-specific event rate is not established by this general warning.

Sometimes the question is, 'Can Profhilo simply be dissolved if I dislike it?' Clinicians use hyaluronidase for certain complications involving hyaluronic-acid products, but whether it is appropriate, needed or effective depends on the exact situation; there is no guarantee of a fast, complete reversal. It would be particularly wrong to assume that all injectable materials have the same reversibility. If you simply dislike a subtle aesthetic change and have no warning symptoms, declining the next session and observing may be an option.

How is Profhilo different from the closest alternatives?

If your central question is 'skin quality or volume?', the comparison becomes clearer. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite and can produce volume and tissue biostimulation; it is a different material and cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase as a hyaluronic filler may be. Stylage is a family of hyaluronic-acid products with different aims, including contour and lip augmentation; sharing the word 'hyaluronic' does not make it an equivalent to Profhilo. Precise correction of folds is a separate question discussed for Juvederm. Jalupro and Plinest have other compositions and evidence bases; switching according to a social-media ranking is not medically meaningful.

If the only reason offered is that 'everyone is doing it', ask which individual problem this treatment would address for you. Four useful questions are: what could improve, what will not change, which worsening symptoms require emergency care, and what will we do if the benefit is small? Also ask for the full product name and version, local registration status, origin, batch number and clinician qualifications. Request their plan for managing vascular occlusion—a blocked blood vessel. There should be a clear route to emergency assistance, not only attractive portfolio pictures.

A reliable price cannot be stated without a verified offer from a clinic. It may depend on product version, number of packs, visits, clinician training, examination and follow-up. Compare not just the quote but whether the initial assessment, review visit and complication care are covered. The ability to buy a syringe or see a Yerevan advertisement does not prove authenticity, Armenian registration or availability at a particular practice.

In short: Profhilo may be worth considering when the goal is potentially modest skin-quality improvement, not a striking change in facial shape. If what you want is a new cheekbone contour, substantial removal of loose skin or a guaranteed result by a deadline, discussing different options or postponing is more honest. Choosing not to have injections is a complete and legitimate decision.

Additional questions about Profhilo

Can Profhilo replace daily skincare?

No. Injections do not replace sun protection, skincare your skin tolerates or appropriate treatment of skin disease. A clinician should also assess persistent dryness before recommending injections.

Should I keep repeating courses indefinitely?

There is no evidence that a lifelong schedule is necessary. Further treatment should follow an assessment of actual benefit, tolerability, cost and your own preference, not be automatically scheduled according to a manufacturer's calendar.

What if the product name on the box differs by one word?

Do not consent until the exact version, instructions, indications and agreed plan are clarified. Profhilo, Body and Structura are not interchangeable names.
